Acupuncture for pain relief and whole-body balance
Acupuncture places very fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body. Patients often use it to manage pain that hasn't responded to other treatment, and many find sessions deeply relaxing. At AllCure Monroe, acupuncture is part of the same team approach as our physical therapy and chiropractic care, so your providers can coordinate your plan.
Conditions acupuncture is commonly used for
- Chronic neck, back and knee pain
- Migraines and tension headaches
- Arthritis and fibromyalgia
- Neuropathy
- Stress, anxiety and sleep problems
- Fertility support, including alongside IVF or IUI
- Discomfort related to cancer treatment
Techniques
Your acupuncturist may use traditional acupuncture, electro-acupuncture (a gentle current applied through the needles) and cupping, depending on your goals.
What to expect at your first visit
Sessions typically last 45 minutes to an hour. Most patients feel little more than a light tap as each needle goes in, and many feel calm or even sleepy during treatment. Wear loose clothing that can be rolled up to the knees and elbows.
Frequently asked questions
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are much thinner than the needles used for shots. Most people feel a brief pinch or tingle, then relaxation.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
It varies by condition. Your acupuncturist will suggest a plan after your first visit and adjust it based on how you respond.
